Charon arrived at the villa late in the afternoon when Persephone was admiring the veritable forest she had created.
"I'm glad you left the driveway alone. Otherwise, I'd have been screwed. I almost drove past the entrance," he said with a devilish smile. "Hades pissed you off, didn't he?"
"Something like that. Honestly, his arrogance is astronomical," Persephone replied. "What are you doing here? Making sure I don't run away again."
"No, I come bearing gifts, doll, so you can put the claws away," Charon said, reaching into the back seat to bring out a large box and a gift bag. "Hades said we are having drinks at the Labyrinth, so Medusa and Ariadne picked you out something to wear."
Persephone's eyes narrowed. "Hades said Medusa had wanted us all to meet each other tonight, not him."
Charon laughed. "Susa wouldn't have been so pissed off at short notice if that was the case. She got a hold a few of the beauty places she likes who put some makeup and girlie shit together for you too."
"I see. So, Hades wants to test me, does he?" Persephone said, folding her arms.
"I don't think that's it. He wants you to meet everyone but is too emotionally stunted to tell you that," said Charon. Persephone stared at him until he caved in. "And yes, it's undoubtedly a test. Hades loves his Court and probably wants to see if you can handle all our strong personalities. He doesn't want you to go back Demeter pissed off and ready to start a war."
Then maybe he should stop blowing hot and cold and being a handsome jerk. She was still annoyed that he'd just left her in the garden, her body aching and temper hot. It was like she couldn't get one with him without the other. She wanted him, he knew it, and she hated it.
Persephone took the bag Charon offered her. His devilish smile was back.
"You know, the dress the girls picked out for you is an absolute knock out so maybe get your revenge in a way that only a beautiful woman can; by making a grown god weep at what he can't have," Charon added, and then bit his bottom lip suggestively. "Let me know if you need your zip done up, darling."
Persephone grinned. "I just might, titan. How much time do I have to get ready?"
"Two hours, though I doubt you'll need that long," he replied as they walked inside. He poured himself a drink and stretched out of the couch. "Give me a shout if you need any assistance, I'm an excellent hair washer."
Once alone in her bedroom, Persephone opened the dress box and looked at what Medusa and Ariadne had picked out for her. Then she smiled wickedly and hurried to get ready.
